Elivera Bar: The First Woman Grown, Woman Made Bar
This is the first ever woman grown & woman-made chocolate bar. Infused with Palo Santo "Holy Wood" for 3 months, this special bar is to empower your every being and to remind you to Never Stop Looking Up Towards the Light.
When we arrived in Tecpatan, Chiapas in 2019, we were disheartened to find that the first-ever woman’s coop was disbanded. The rains came late and the women were tired after three years of hardship. Added to their struggles is the statistic that 70% of the men in the village leave the women for the city. The women call themselves Widows, because the men never come back. However, one woman, named Elivera, was determined to continue to be a Woman Cacao Farmer despite all odds. We honor her strength and courage to continue to rise above the struggle fought by many women in her community. Her beans are unfermented and meticulously washed by hand, also known as the Mayan Method. Her spirit is resonated through this bar with her wild Heirloom Criollo cacao beans. By buying and receiving this bar, you are supporting her farm, the future of her livelihood and three generations of women (her mother, herself and her daughter). Scroll through the photos to see every woman who had a part in making this special bar.
Each bar includes a story card outlining the significance of this bar.
This is her ticket to her success, livelihood, a way to support her mother and daughter.
